History/Overview
Did you know the YMCA of Greater Louisville was established in 1853 and was the tenth YMCA organized in the United States? Today the YMCA of Greater Louisville has thirteen branches offering many membership and program opportunities.

Our YMCA families have the opportunity to reach their full potential in spirit, mind and body by taking advantage of our state-of-the-art facilities. These facilities include swimming, group fitness/swim classes, spacious gymnasiums, racquetball courts, running tracks, children adventure centers, personal fitness instruction and wellness centers complete with cardiovascular and strength training equipment.

Program Philosophy
The YMCA of Greater Louisville also has a strong program philosophy
. . . “Athletes First, Winning Second.” This philosophy is designed for all participants to grow in the areas of sportsmanship, physical fitness, skill development, self-control and team effort.

Child Care
The largest provider of child care in the state of Kentucky, the YMCA also serves over 6,500 children a day, both in infant, toddler, preschool and school-age child care. Busy parents can go to work knowing that their child is safe, secure and involved in structured activities.

Safe Place Services
The YMCA of Greater Louisville is well known for the establishment of a nationwide program called Safe Place Services founded in 1974. Safe Place Services has touched the lives of thousands of teens in crises and their families. Through crises intervention, counseling, outreach and prevention, Safe Place Services provides a continuum of care that not only gets our youth the help they so desperately need, but also prevents many situations before they progress to more serious circumstances.
