  • To have fun!

History
The YMCA opened the first summer camp in the United States more than 100 years ago, and today remains the leader in the summer camp experience.

Camp Piomingo, near Louisville, Kentucky, has been a part of this tradition since 1938. Over the years, Piomingo has built a reputation as one of the premier camps in the region.

Overview
YMCA Camp Piomingo takes its name from the Native American word "Piomingo," meaning "big bend in the river." Camp Piomingo blends Native American lore and ceremony with traditional camp activities and the latest in counseling and individual development techniques. While at Camp Piomingo, children discover a creative type of fun they cannot find in video games or toys. Coed programs for children ages 6 to 16 are supervised by experienced staff amid historic, natural facilities.

Camp Piomingo's 360 beautifully wooded acres are included in the 2,600 acres of Otter Creek Park, providing unlimited opportunities for outdoor adventure. Excitement and thrills await exploring campers who discover miles of trails, Otter Creek and the bluffs overlooking the Ohio River.

Experienced instructors lead participants through a series of challenges that are designed to address issues such as:

  • Methods of communication
  • Problem-solving
  • Effective use of limited resources
  • Conflict resolution
  • Awareness of individual and group dynamics
  • Self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Risk management techniques
  • Mirroring experiential experiences in workplace setting

Our Challenge-by-Choice philosophy ensures that participants stretch their comfort zone but are never forced to participate should they feel the degree of difficulty or discomfort too great.

Camp Piomingo’s Corporate Challenge Program is designed to strengthen teamwork, increase commitment to common targets and assist the business community in reaching its goals.

Programs
Health & Fitness, Sports, Camp, Family, World, and Community Development.
